Today is not only Earth Day throughout the country, but it also marks the 15th anniversary of, in my opinion, one of the most underrated theme parks in Orlando, Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Throughout the day special appearances by characters, artists and other special events will be taking place throughout the park. A ceremony was held at 8:40 this morning with the following guests as speakers:
- Josh D’Amaro, Vice President of Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- Dr. Jackie Ogden, Vice President of Animals, Science and Environment
- Joe Rohde, Senior Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering Creative
There has also been an insanely long line to get your hands on some limited edition Animal Kingdom 15th anniversary merchandise, such as pins, clothes, Vinylmation figures.
Disney is also celebrating Earth Day with a special event called “Party for the Planet”. The park will be offering guests a limited time cookie and cupcake. And throughout the week, you can head on over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Kona Café at Disney’s Polynesian Resort for a Worm and Dirt Cupcake, which will be available all week from April 22 and Sunday, April 28. If a Worm and Dirt Cupcake is not your thing and you prefer a tart instead, you can get a Worm and Dirt Tart over at Epcot or the Magic Kingdom.
If you want to get in on the Animal Kingdom celebration on Twitter, be sure to use the hashtag #DAK15 to be a part of the celebration.
