Production company Legendary Picutres finds new home at NBC Universal
Legendary Pictures, a movie production company that has released a countless number of hit films has apparently signed a deal with NBC Universal as their new financing, distribution and marketing partner. Legendary Films has been a partner with Warner Brothers for quite some time and the Chief Executive of Legendary Pictures mentioned that if they did not have a new contract with Warner Brothers by June 18 that they would be moving elsewhere.
What is really interesting about this new partnership is that all of Christopher Nolan’s recent DC films, such as “Batman Begins”, “The Dark Knight Rises” and the “Man of Steel” and “Superman Returns” films are all under the Legendary Pictures label. And the announcement today really placed emphasis on Universal bringing many of Legendary Pictures films to life in its theme parks.
“Legendary continues to prove that big ideas are relevant and profitable with our global movie-going audience. We couldn’t be more thrilled to embrace the challenges and changing marketplace with Thomas and his team and we are also excited about what opportunities this will bring to our Theme Parks around the world,” said Ron Meyer, who is the President and COO of Universal Studios.
Does this mean perhaps we could see Marvel being replaced with DC? Six Flags has held the licensing agreement to the DC Universe for quite some time now, and this licensing agreement is for future Legendary Pictures projects not under the Warner Bros. name. So movies such as their upcoming Godzilla remake will not be under Universal. But wouldn’t a Godzilla ride be awesome?
