SeaWorld float wins award at Rose Parade despite controversy

19 people were arrested Wednesday after protesting SeaWorld’s float during the 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade Wednesday.  The ‘Sea of Surprises’ parade float features three killer whales ‘swimming’ on the front of the float, which is constructed out of roses and other variations of flowers.

“They attempted to stand and stomp in front of the float to delay its progress,” Lt. Terysa Rojas of the Pasadena Police Department.

Those that were arrested were charged with a violation of “interfering with special events,” which is a misdemeanor.

Some good news out of all of this though.  The SeaWorld float won the President’s award for Most effective floral use and presentation.
