Bob Iger released a few details about what we can expect in the Treasure Cove area of Shanghai Disneyland during todays annual shareholders meeting.  A new attraction called Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure will be the centerpiece attraction.  This new attraction will be based on the hit ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film franchise rather than based upon the classic renditions of the Disney version of Pirates of the Caribbean.

“Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most iconic attractions in our parks, and we really couldn’t imagine Shanghai Disneyland without Pirates,” Bob Iger said. “We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind experience that would appeal to our Chinese guests while remaining true to its Disney heritage.”

Disney has incorporated Johnny Depp and his character Jack Sparrow in both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World versions of the attraction.  Shanghai Disneyland’s Pirates attraction will be the first solely based on the film series.

Shanghai Disneyland is slated to open in 2015.
