New details, photos and name announced for the Orlando Eye and surrounding area
Three new attractions are coming to International Drive, each of which are a part of the newly announced I-Drive 360 project. They include a Sea Life Aquarium, Madame Tussauds, which is a wax museum, and of course, the Orlando Eye, the centerpiece giant wheel.
Merlin Entertainment announced today that the name has changed from I-Drive Live to I-Drive 360 at The Orlando Eye. The centerpiece of this new shopping, dining and entertainment venue will be the Orlando Eye, a giant 400-foot wheel that will give riders a birds-eye view of Orlando and the surrounding area. The giant wheel will feature 30 air conditioned gondolas that will hold 15 people. One entire rotation on the giant wheel will take approximately 20 minutes. Before boarding their gondolas, guests will experience a 4-D movie spotlighting Florida places with wind, sprays, lighting effects and smells.
The wax museum, or better known as Madame Tussauds, will feature 25,000 square feet of your favorite celebrites from movies, sports and more. It can take anywhere between three to four months to complete one wax figure. Hundreds of photos are snapped of the celebrity before the wax figure is created.
The Sea Life Aquarium will feature more than 5,000 creatures on display throughout the experience. Guests will have the opportunity to walk through a submerged 360 degree tunnel for a once-in-a-lifetime underwater view of some of the oceans creatures.
The Orlando Eye giant wheel is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year with a grand opening of the entire area by spring 2015.
