During a special ribbon-cutting ceremony held Friday morning, Park President Carl Lum, Vice President Jeff Thomas, local community leaders and students from An Achievable Dream Academy in Newport News invited the public to #ConquerTheCurl.
“For three decades, Water Country USA has been a family-fun destination. Colossal Curl complements the wide array of slides, rides and resort-style amenities available to park guests,” Lum said. “With the addition of Colossal Curl, the park has a thrill attraction that can be enjoyed by the entire family.”
Lum, Thomas and 11 fifth-grade students from An Achievable Dream Academy led park guests up Colossal Curl’s 67.5-foot-tall tower, walking up the tower’s 108 steps to take the first official ride on the mega-slide. Colossal Curl is the only slide in North America to have both a 24-foot funnel feature and a 40-foot wave element on one slide. Lum, who serves on the An Achievable Dream, Inc. board, invited the students to participate in the first ride to get feedback on Colossal Curl’s thrill factor.
“Customer surveys are important, but the true measurement of a guest’s enjoyment and satisfaction is the expression of excitement on his face when he experiences an attraction like Colossal Curl for the first time,” said Lum.
Colossal Curl is sure to whet the appetite of thrill seekers of all ages. This high-adrenaline, action-packed water slide adventure features a funnel element that swishes and swirls up to four riders aboard a cloverleaf-shaped raft before whisking them through the slide’s enclosed tubes on their way to a wave element that hurtles them high above the park’s landscape.
“If the students’ excitement is any indication of our fans’ reaction, I imagine Colossal Curl will be a guest favorite for years to come,” said Thomas, Water Country USA’s vice president.
Water Country USA is open daily May 23 through September 1.
