Magic Kingdom remained the number one theme park in 2013 according to new data released by TEA, AECOM.  The park saw a 6% increase in 2013 attendance numbers, with a total of 18.6 million guests through its gates in 2013.

Here is the breakdown of the top 10 parks around the globe in 2013 according to the 2013 Global Attractions Attendance Report [PDF]

  1. Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom 18.6 6.0%
  2. Tokyo Disneyland 17.2 15.9%
  3. Disneyland 16.2 1.5%
  4. Tokyo DisneySea 14.1 11.3%
  5. Epcot 11.2 1.5%
  6. Disneyland Paris 10.4 -6.9%
  7. Disney’s Animal Kingdom 10.2 2.0%
  8. Disney’s Hollywood Studios 10.1 2%
  9. Universal Studios Japan 10.1 4.1%
  10. Disney California Adventure 8.5 9.5%

And here are the top 10 parks across the U.S. in 2013:

  1. Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom 18.6 6.0%
  2. Disneyland 16.2 1.5%
  3. Epcot 11.2 1.5%
  4. Disney’s Animal Kingdom 10.2 2.0%
  5. Disney’s Hollywood Studios 10.1 2%
  6. Disney California Adventure 8.5 9.5%
  7. Islands of Adventure 8.1 2.0%
  8. Universal Studios Florida 7.1 14%
  9. Universal Studios Hollywood 6.1 4.0%
  10. SeaWorld Orlando 5.1 -5.0%

Although Magic Kingdom remained on top for 2013, Universal Orlando was the big winner with a jump in attendance of  14%.  This jump is due to the addition of Fast Food BLVD., Springfield and Transformers: The Ride at Universal Studios Florida.

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens parks saw a drop in attendance in 2013, possibly due to the backlash from the film Blackfish.  The park saw its peak attendance back in 2009 at 5.8 million.

With all of the new additions coming 2014, such as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley and the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the Magic Kingdom, how do you think 2014 will shape up?
