The Orlando Eye gives us a sneak peek of one of capsules

The Orlando Eye construction is kicking into high gear as the inner wheel is now complete and work is well underway on the outer wheel.  Once the outer wheel is complete, the 30 capsules will be attached to the outer wheel giving riders incredible views of the surround International Drive area.

One capsule weighs three metric tons (6,600 pounds) or about the same as an Indian elephant or a baby blue whale.

The capsules began arriving on site earlier this month all the way from Germany.  All of the capsules were manufactured in Turkey then transported to Hungary for assembly.

The capsules will provide riders with a 360-degree, air conditioned view of the Orlando area.  The capsules will even feature audio and lighting effects.

“Construction on the Eye is moving at great speed, and once the outer wheel has been completed, it will be exciting to see the installation process of the capsules,” said Orlando Eye General Manager Robin Goodchild. “Approaching that milestone signifies just how close we are getting to our spring 2015 grand opening.”

Finishing off the surround I-Drive 360 area will be the brand new Madame Tussauds Orlando wax attraction and SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium.
