News broke today that Avatar 2 has been delayed until late 2017. This puts the current schedule for the new Avatarland expansion at Animal Kingdom ahead of when the first sequel hits theaters.
“We’re writing three simultaneously. And we’ve done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We’re not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that,” Cameron said. “And parallel with that, we’re doing all the design. So we’ve designed all the creatures and the environments.”
The first sequel was originally scheduled to open in theaters in late 2016, to coincide with the opening of the Avatarland at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Now it looks like this wont’ happen due to the delay of the second film.
The original Avatar film took in more than $2.8 billion globally at the box office.
How will all of this affect the opening of Avatar at Animal Kingdom? We will just have to wait and see.
