Disney has announced that it will be bringing its first Latina princess to TV in an all-new series.

She will be making her debut in her all-new show called Elena of Avalor in 2016.  But first she will be making a guest appearance on a special episode of Sofia the First.

Dominican Republic-born Aimee Carrero of ABC Family’s Young & Hungry, 26, will voice Elena.

“Sofia is a fairytale girl who lives in a fairytale world,” said Nancy Kanter, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide. “All our characters come from fantasy lands that may reflect elements of various cultures and ethnicities.”

Her story is one that involves an amulet she was entrapped in by an evil sorceress named Shuriki.  Sofia “discovers the truth . . . and sets out to restore Elena to her human form and help her return to the kingdom of Avalor.”

Look for her and her new show to debut next year on Disney Junior.
