SeaWorld was holding a contest on their Facebook page to vote for the name of their new female killer whale calf born on December 2nd.

The names that were up for vote were Amaya, Nasia and Kissa.

The winning name was just announced on their Facebook page as Amaya, which apparently means “Night Rain” according to Babynames.com.  Although, it could have a different meaning if derived from a different culture.

Amaya was born to Kalia, a 10-year-old orca at SeaWorld San Diego after a 17-month gestation period.
