It looks like the Japanese division of Universal could be expanding beyond its initial park in Okinawa.
The company hinted that they are looking into an area on the island of Okinawa on the site of an old air force base.
“What the discussion has revolved around is opening another theme park in Okinawa,” Universal Studios Japan (USJ) president Glenn Gumpel told local reporters.
The park will reportedly feature rides and attractions based upon the the subtropical island, instead of the traditional Hollywood themes, he said.
Gumpel did not give any details as to when the park will open because the park is still in the very early stages of development.
The original Universal Studios Japan opened back in 2001 in Osaka and has drawn in millions of tourists to the area. It is the latest Universal theme park to get the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which opened last year.
