If you’re a fan of the Shockwave roller coaster at Kings Dominion, you have one month to get your final rides on the classic stand up coaster.

Kings Dominion announced today that the ride is closing for good on August 9th.

Shockwave is the last remaining TOGO stand up roller coaster in the U.S.  It opened back in 1986 and has provided over 22 million rides.

Kings Dominion has yet to announce what will be replacing Shockwave.  Kings Dominion is long overdue for a major coaster, so it will be interesting to see what comes out of this closure.  Could we see Kings Dominon get a new entrance/mega B&M for 2016 that Carowinds saw with Fury 325?  They do already have a 300+ foot coaster in the shape of Intimidator 305.

We will have to wait and see what Kings Dominion has in store for 2016.
