Much of the land Universal purchased can be seen in this photo just north of Universal BLVD.

Comcast confirmed this morning during their year-end earnings call this morning that the company has indeed purchased 475 acres of land, most likely being the land near Universal Orlando, for $130 million.

The talk of this purchase began back in December when discussion began of Comcast acquiring the land for future expansions.  The land is located just northeast of the Orange County Convention Center off of Universal BLVD.  It is located just miles from the current Universal Orlando Resort area.

Comcast mentioned the land purchase while talking about their expenses from the NBCUniversal section of the company which “increased spending at theme parks, including a land purchase adjacent to an existing theme park of $130 million.”

This purchase will be a huge asset for Universal Orlando in the coming years as it continues to grow and expand at its current location and begins to run out of room.  The theme park resort is currently building a hotel, expanding on a current hotel and is adding a waterpark to the mix.

Universal mentioned that it is too early to tell what will become of the 475 acres purchased, but we can surely bet that with Comcast behind the company now, big things are in the pipeline for Universal Orland.
