Dollywood announces Lightning Rod, World's Fastest Wood Roller Coaster For 2016 5

Lightning Rod, Dollywood’s latest and greatest scream machine won’t be quite ready for opening weekend.

The park and Rocky Mountain Construction announced via Dollywood’s website that they need more time to  “commission the ride.”

Lightning Rod is world’s first launched wooden roller coaster.  The new roller coaster will send riders 73 mph down a 165-foot first drop through hilly Pigeon Forge terrain.

Dollywood opens for the season this weekend with their water park opening on May 14.

When we hear from Dollywood about an opening date, we will bring it to you.

Until then, check out the Lightning Rod POV here.
