“The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” officially opens at Universal Studios Hollywood

Today was the big day over on the west coast as Universal Studios Hollywood officially opened their version of the boy wizard world to the Muggle masses.

“The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” officially opened its gates at the park ushering in a new immersive experience for guests to enjoy at the park.

Stars from the Harry Potter films that joined the festivities included Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), and James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley).

“Today is a very exciting and historically significant day for us,” said Larry Kurzweil, President, Universal Studios Hollywood. “This incredible event to celebrate the opening of ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ marks the pinnacle of years of hard work and the beginning of a new generation of Universal Studios Hollywood.”

The park lit up the night with an incredible fireworks display and projection system on Hogwarts Castle that lit up the night as the park kicked off the grand opening festivities.

“Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” makes its U.S. debut at Universal Studios Hollywood in 3D-HD designed to further immerse guests in an already incredible attraction, which first made its debut at Islands of Adventure back in 2010. The latest version of the attraction to open prior to Hollywood’s version opened in 2014 and is located at Universal Studios Japan, its version is also in 3D.

“Flight of the Hippogriffalso opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, making it the first outdoor roller coaster for the park.

Guests also have the wide assortment of famous Hogsmeade stores to shop at, including Honeydukes, Ollivanders, Owl Post, Zonko’s Joke Shop, Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, Dervish and Banges, Gladrags Wizardwear and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods.

Guests also can grab a bite to eat at Three Broomsticks, and Hog’s Head pub, as well as the Magic Neep and Butterbeer carts.
