Comcast NBCUniversal announced today that it will contribute well over a million dollars in support of Houston-area relief efforts, including cash and in-kind contributions.

To start off, NBC and Telemundo stations have set up local phone banks and are hosting telethons to raise awareness on how others can contribute to relief efforts. NBCUniversal is also spreading the word on television and other broadcast mediums.

There will be a contribution of  $500,000 that will be shared between Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and the American Red Cross.

Comcast has also opened 53,000 Xfinity WiFi hotspots around the Houston area to help residents and emergency workers, whether they are an Xfinity customer or not, to help them connect.
