Nintendo confirmed today that they are indeed working with Illumination on a new animated Mario movie, the company behind the popular Despicable Me and Minions movies. The original rumor popped up back in November that Illumination was in talks to make a Super Mario movie, but nothing was officially announced.

Very few details are known at this time other than it will be co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto — the creator of Mario. The news was shared via the Nintendo Twitter handle:

With Illumination now in the Mario movie business with Nintendo, it is an exciting time for Universal due to their upcoming Nintendo expansion at their theme parks as well as a movie now in the works.
