Water Country USA Earns American Red Cross Lifesaving Awards and the Virginia Lifeguard Association Dr. Frank Pia Lifesaving Award
Water Country USA recently received six American Red Cross Lifesaving Awards and the Virginia Lifeguard Association Dr. Frank Pia Lifesaving Award for a water rescue that took place last summer.
On July 3, 2013, a shallow water guard, members of Park Operations leadership team and Health Services staff assisted in successfully saving a distressed guest at Hubba Hubba Highway, a floating water attraction that uses water current to carry guests around a 1,500-foot man-made river.
“I’m very proud of the lifesaving measures that were provided by our team,” said Jeff Thomas, vice president of Water Country USA. “This is a testament to the preparation and training that our team undergoes to ensure the safety of our guests.”
The American Red Cross Lifesaving Award is one of the highest accolades given to an individual or team of individuals who saves or sustains a life by using skills and knowledge learned in an American Red Cross Health and Safety Services course. The Dr. Frank Pia Lifesaving Award is awarded to responders from the most outstanding lifesaving event of the year.
