Planet Hollywood to lay off 468 employees as it closes for remodeling

The Planet Hollywood restaurant at Disney Springs will be laying off 468 employees as it prepares for a major renovation.

Planet Hollywood issued the following statement:

For the last 20 years, Planet Hollywood’s Disney location has been America’s preeminent destination dedicated to celebrating the entertainment industry in a dynamic Hollywood museum-meets-restaurant atmosphere.

In January 2016, the iconic globe will temporarily close for extensive renovations and artistic treatments that will transform the Orlando flagship location into a four-story stargazing observatory.

“Following the restaurant’s six month closing, the Orlando-based company pledged to employees that they would be given priority in the hiring process upon completion of the renovation.”

The restaurant will be re-themed into an astronomy observatory to fit in with the Disney Springs theme.

The employees that will be laid off will have first dibs on being hired when it reopens in the summer of 2016.
