‘Bumblebee’ shows hope for Transformers after Michael Bay

"Bumblebee" hits theaters this Christmas

Could it be? A ‘Transformers’ film that isn’t not to hours of explosions? The first trailer for “Bumblebee” hit today and it surprisingly looks like it could be a decent film, of course, without Michael Bay at the helm, it’s possible. The retro design of Bumblebee and Starscream in the trailer are a breath of fresh air compared to the crazy designed Transformers we’ve seen over the last few films as well.

Here is the official synopsis of “Bumblebee”:

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

And how about the beginning of the trailer with Bernie Mac? Talk about a tear jerker.

“Bumblebee” will be directed by Kubo and the Two Strings Travis Knight and written by by Christina Hodson.

“Bumblebee” cruises into theaters December 21, 2018.
