Disney announces $7 Billion in Global Box Office for 2018
On December 9, 2018, The Walt Disney Studios surpassed $7 billion in global box office for the calendar year. The current record was ironically enough Disney with $7.6 billion back in 2016.
Overseas, Disney has taken in about $4.069 billion at the international box office, marking their second biggest year and the third biggest in industry history.
Much of the success this year Disney contributes to massive Marvel films, such as Avengers: Infinity War, which was the #1 movie of the year. Black Panther was another huge success at the box office both stateside and globally $1.35 billion worldwide, including $700 million in the US/Canada.
Their animation films also helped, with Pixar’s Incredibles 2 becoming the biggest animated film in domestic history with $608.6 million and the No. 2 animated film of all time with $1.24 billion.
Ralph Breaks the Internet has recently marked its third consecutive week at No. 1 in the US and has earned nearly $260 million globally to date.
And they’re not done yet. Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters in a few days and is expected to bring in $65 million through Christmas Day.
