Marvel Phase 4 films and shows announced at San Diego Comic Con 2019 Hall H Panel
Marvel Studios announced the next phase for the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicking off next year. Phase 4 will include films and TV shows coming to Disney+. The managed to surpise many in attendance at Hall H at the 2019 San Diego Comic Con with some of the announcements. Here is what is coming through 2021.
“Black Widow” kicks off Phase 4 of the MCU in May 1, 2020. The cast featuring Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh were there. They showed a trailer showing Black Widow fight her sister Ilena played by Pugh and also Black Widow faces off with a character that looks like it is The Taskmaster.
Debuting Fall 2020 on Disney+ will be “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier”. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will be joined by Daniel Bruhl returning as Zemo.
Next up “The Eternals” will be released in November 6, 2020. The cast includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh and Don Lee.
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will be released in February 12, 2021. It will star Awkwafina and Tony Leung as the Mandarin. Simu Liu has landed the title role of Shang-Chi. He was cast on Tuesday and today was his first time at Comic Con.
“Wanda Vision” is coming to Disney+ in Spring 2021 with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. The series takes place after Endgame. We will also meet a grown up Monica Rambeau from “Captain Marvel” who will be portrayed as an adult by Teyonah Parris.
The “Loki” series is also coming to Disney+ in Spring 2021. It will follow Loki’s adventures after what happened in “Avengers:Endgame”
“Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” opens May 7, 2021. It will be the first scary MCU film and will take the Doctor to some dark places. Also, the events of Wanda/Vision will tie into the movie and Scarlet Witch will be in the movie.
The first Marvel Studios animated series “What if…” will debut on Disney+ in Summer 2021. It will feature Jeffrey Wright as the voice of The Watcher. Many of the MCU actors will return to voice their characters.
The final Disney+ MCU series of 2021 will be “Hawkeye” in the Fall. Jeremy Renner is back and the Marvel character, Kate Bishop(who has gone by Hawkeye in the comics) will debut.
The final MCU film of the year, “Thor: Love and Thunder” will open November 5, 2021. Natalie Portman is back as Jane Foster and she will be a female Thor. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson also will be back with Taika Waititi directing again. The film will be based on the storyline from “The Mighty Thor” comic featuring Jane Foster as a female Thor.
Also announced coming in 2022 and beyond will be “Captain Marvel 2”, “Black Panther 2”, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, “Fantastic Four” and “Blade” with Mahershala Ali as the new Blade.
So much announced and even some surprises. We expect Spider-man 3 will be in Phase 4 but since that is released by Sony we will have to wait for them to make an announcement. What are you most excited about?
