According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new Haunted Mansion movie is in the works at Disney and will be written by Katie Dippold. Dippold’s resume includes being a writer for Parks and Recreation, the movie The Heat, the 2013 action comedy that starred Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. She was also the screenwriter for the all-female 2016 ‘Ghostbusters‘ reboot. Dan Lin will produce the live-action feature along with Jonathan Eirich, who are responsible for the live-action adaptation of ‘Aladdin’ starring Will Smith.
We all remember the 2003 ‘Haunted Mansion’ movie directed by Rob Minkoff and starring Eddie Murphy. There has also been discussion for a while that Guillermo del Toro would be doing his own version of Haunted Mansion. This discussion goes all the way back to San Diego Comic-Con 2010 when it was teased that he would be heading the reboot.
Could Katie bring the perfect balance of spooks and comedy to the Haunted Mansion movie? We will have to wait and see.
