We are approaching one year since Disneyland closed its doors due to COVID-19 and there may finally be some light at the end of this dark tunnel. California issued new rules on Friday which would allow Disneyland and other area theme parks to reopen on a very limited capacity.
With these new rules, Disneyland would be able to reopen as soon as the county the park is located in, which is Orange, drops out of the most restrictive tier, which is purple. The state uses a 4-color tier system for their COVID-19 guidelines. The county would have to have up to 7 new coronavirus cases a day per 100,000 people and positive test rates of up to 8% in order to drop to the red tier, which is just below purple. Orange counties numbers on Friday were 7.6 new coronavirus cases per day per 100,000 people, with a 3.9% positive rate on testing.
Some of the strict reopening guidelines would include maximum capacity to 15%, no indoor dining, and only California residents would be allowed to visit the parks. And of course, a ticket reservation would be required for entrance to Disneyland.
Both Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood will be hosting hard-ticketed events allowing guests to enter their parks (Disney California Adventure) for a fee and experience dining. No rides will be open during these ticketed events.
