Taking place at Schaghticoke Fairgrounds, Spooky Island is a brand new horror event located in Schaghticoke, NY this fall! The event will begin on Spooky Island, dark woods that are filled with ancient tribal spirits and horrific creatures. The event will feature:
- 3 spine-tingling scare zones
- 2 horrifying haunted house
- Over 15 carnival rides and games
- Food & Beverages with 20 different vendor options
- Live Entertainment – DJs playing throughout, nightly magicians and fire acts
- Horror vendor hall with 20 horror-themed vendors
Tickets to the event include both haunted houses and scare zones but do NOT include food, beverages, or carnival rides. Tickets for carnival rides can be purchased on the midway. The ticket must be used on the date of purchase, pricing, and availability vary by date and product
The event will be open Thursday-Sunday starting on September 29, 2023, and ending on October 29, 2023, with haunted houses open from 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm and rides open from 4:00 pm – 11:30pm
Listed below are the terrifying zones and houses you can experience at the event!
Scare-Zone 1: Spooky Island’s Tribe of Terror
You awaken and find yourself stranded on an unknown island, with no other land or life in sight. Where are you? How did you get here? This place feels different… time feels still as you hear the sound of crashing waves. As you regain your composure, you stumble through the trees going deeper into the island. You hear what sounds like chanting coming from the distance. Against every instinct you have, you continue further down the rabbit hole, the sound drawing you closer. As you brush the last of the branches out of your view you see it. A large wooden archway stands with a name carved in the center: Spooky Island. You look around and see what looks to be the middle of a ritualistic ceremony, you feel the pounding of the drums hitting your heart like a hammer. As you inch closers to get a better look, the crunching of the leaves gives away your location. The drums and chanting cease as the beings now look directly at you. Their faces are covered in blood-stained wooden tiki-like masks and their bodies are covered in blood and body paint. They are all wearing torn blood-smeared clothing and are carrying barbaric weapons they seem unafraid to use on you. What are these creatures? They appear human-like but they also do not feel of this world. As they continue to look in your direction, you begin to hear the sound of the drums slowly building back up. The creatures slowly move to the side and reveal a giant creature dragging a club of skulls across the dirt. You feel your heart skip a beat and you begin to back up into the forest. The drums get loud and louder and the creatures begin to move forward. On a giant podium in the center, a woman stands holding a staff dressed in black cloth and wearing a wooden eye mask. She bangs the staff, points it at you, and lets out a shout. The creatures begin to charge you as you try and escape into the trees. As they chase you, you hear the woman laugh in the distance. Tonight they are the predators… and you are the prey.
Scare-Zone 2: Upstate Ripper
In colonial New York, a village deep in the Catskill Mountains, a full moon has risen. As you wander through the forest of Spooky Island, trying to escape what lies behind you, a strange feeling comes over you. You look around and the area looks different… the time feels different. As you continue down the moonlit path you see it: A desolate village with a sign reading “Luna’s Cradle”. Legend has it, every 13 years on the night of a full moon, an entity known as the Upstate Ripper can be summoned… but only with a blood sacrifice. It’s told that he can grant a child a single wish but there is a price to pay: an unquenchable thirst for blood and violence. Empty shopfronts and homes line the street, an eerie fog acting as a blanket over the land. As you wander through the empty street, an out-of-tune bell tolls in the distance, the sound seeping into your consciousness and allowing an uneasy feeling to set in. You continue through the town, but a sight makes you stop dead in your tracks. In a small hay-filled pen outside of a house, a zombified child feasts on a dead goat. Their back is to you as they tear through the flesh of the dead animal. As you begin to back away, the child stops and slowly stands upright. They turn and begin to look at you, blood is smeared on their face and body. You sprint away from the child, looking for any safe place that you can escape. You see a warmly glowing candle shop in front of you and begin to scream for help. The door slams open revealing another zombified child covered in burns and scratch marks. The child is holding the head of her dead mother which is covered in blood and dripping wax. You avoid the shop and head for the town exit. As you exit the town you see a large tree with satanic decorations hanging and a pentagram right in the center of the ground. Children begin to emerge from the bushes and behind the tree… and then you see him. The Upstate Ripper emerges from behind the tree, towering over us. As the children begin to approach you he silently watches with an
enormous smile.Scare-Zone 3: Disciples of Darkness
In an alternate future of New York, a world once powered by steam and cogs now runs on the blasphemous new magic of electricity. As technology advances, citizens have engaged in the latest drug: body modifications and upgrades. As you enter a grimy back alleyway, you pass by a booth with a neon sign reading “psychic”. A medium emerges from the darkness and stops you in your tracks. She presents you with a reading, warning that the end is near. As we continue down the alleyway, a mysterious man going by the name of “Doctor Daemon” has gathered a crowd for a demonstration, promising advancement in the latest body mods. Signs of propaganda line the walls of the stage with phrases: “The Future is Now”, “Become Your Best Self”, and “God is a Machine”. As he reveals his latest experiments, you begin to realize something feels very wrong… But it is already too late. Emerging from the darkness, his latest creations slowly walk into the crowd. They resemble humans but any sense of morality is long gone. They wear crowns of thorns and eyes all black, dressed in gothic attire. Blood and cuts cover their skin showing signs of involuntary surgery. Just as they get closer to the crowd, they stop and slowly turn back toward the stage, obeying the commands of their master. The Doctor continues his speech, revealing his prized creation. In between two pillars, we see the ripper doctor known simply as “The Surgeon”. He stands wearing a modified welding mask and wields two Tesla coils powered by electricity. He begins his show moment, using his coils to resurrect a modified human, sounds of pain echo throughout. As you stand in horror, you notice the other demons have entered the crowd, and have begun stealing observers to be the next experiments. The area lights up with neon lights and upside crosses, becoming an otherworldly demonic playground. As you try to escape, the demons surround you. The future of change is for the deranged. Don’t struggle. The doctor will see you now.
Haunted House 1: Tunnel of Blood
In a modern-day small town, a Tunnel of Love attraction has appeared overnight with the promise of allowing those young and old to embrace the nostalgia of a simpler time. The town is on edge, however, as people have started disappearing without a trace and the mumblings of a secret cult nicknamed “Cupid’s Messengers” rumors to lurk in the town’s shadow. Authorities start to receive reports of the animatronics in the Tunnel of Love attraction eerily resembling the missing citizens. Could this be a coincidence… or is there something more sinister going on inside the Tunnel of Love?
Haunted House 2: Spook-E-State
When it comes to Halloween, Zoey is a self-proclaimed decorating master. Every year, her neighborhood has a house decorating concert, yet she always seems to fall in second place. Willing to do whatever it takes, she dabbles in dark magic to guarantee her house is the scariest on the block. When her tacky decorations seem to take on a life of her own, she realizes her deal may have come with a price.
