DinoLand U.S.A. Prepares for Extinction as Tropical Americas Takes Shape

Time is running out to catch that dino! As previously announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will soon go extinct to make way for Tropical Americas, an expansive new land featuring an Indiana Jones adventure, the first-ever Encanto attraction, and a vibrant new world inspired by the cultures of Central and South America.

But don’t worry—you still have time to soak up the prehistoric fun before construction fully takes over. If you’re wondering when, where, and how this transformation is happening, we’ve got you covered!

Is DinoLand U.S.A. Still Open?

Yes! While change is on the horizon, you can still explore parts of DinoLand U.S.A. through 2025—no Time Rover required (but if you happen to have one, well…we won’t stop you).

When Is DinoLand Closing?

2025 is your last chance to enjoy DinoLand before it goes extinct. The countdown has begun, so be sure to stop by for one more adventure before the past becomes, well… history.

Some experiences, including DINOSAUR, The Boneyard, and Restaurantosaurus, remain open throughout 2025, but as construction ramps up, more closures will follow.

What’s Already Closed in DinoLand?

The first wave of changes arrived earlier this year when TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures closed their doors for good on January 12, 2025.

Need DinoLand merch? While they last, you can still grab some souvenirs at Island Mercantile, Discovery Trading Company, and the Dino Institute Shop!

When Will DINOSAUR Close?

You still have until 2026 to make one last wild escape back to the Cretaceous period. After that, the Dino Institute will close its doors forever—but we’ll always remember Dr. Seeker’s mission (and that asteroid).

When Will Restaurantosaurus Close?

Dino-sized appetites, rejoice! Restaurantosaurus will continue serving favorites throughout 2025, making it the perfect place to refuel before your next adventure.

While you’re there, don’t miss:
🍔 Foot-long Hot Dog with Chili & Cheese
🍟 A-Maize-ing Magic Munch Fries
🍫 S’moresosaurus Shake

Nearby, Dino-Bites Snacks is also open, so you can still enjoy an Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich or the fan-favorite Dig Dino Ice Cream Sandwich before this location closes as well.

When Will The Boneyard Close?

Young paleontologists still have time to dig into fun at The Boneyard—it will remain open through 2025 before closing for good.

Tropical Americas Expansion coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

DinoLand may be going extinct, but Tropical Americas is bringing an all-new adventure to Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Set to open in 2027, this lush 11-acre land will transport guests to Pueblo Esperanza, an immersive, history-rich village featuring:
✨ A thrilling Indiana Jones attraction, where you’ll join Indy on an all-new quest to find a mythical creature.
🏡 The first-ever Encanto ride, bringing Casa Madrigal to life in a magical new adventure.
🎠 A working carousel, hand-carved by a local artisan, featuring beloved Disney animals.
🍽 One of the largest quick-service restaurants at Walt Disney World, inspired by a beautiful hacienda.

Construction is already underway, and while we say goodbye to the dinosaurs, a brand-new world is ready to come to life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
