Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Set for Major Upgrades at Magic Kingdom

Get ready to blast off with a refreshed mission! Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom is set to undergo exciting updates in 2025 that will bring new technology, enhanced gameplay, and a brand-new character to the beloved Tomorrowland attraction.
The biggest addition? A friendly new support-bot named Buddy, created in collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios. Buddy will greet guests at the beginning of their mission, helping with final launch checks and letting recruits test out their blaster skills before heading into battle against the Evil Emperor Zurg.
Alongside Buddy, the ride will debut updated vehicles with fresh Star Command-inspired designs, built-in video monitors for live scoring updates, and new handheld blasters. These upgraded blasters will feature always-on lasers, dual color modes, and interactive sound, light, and vibration feedback—making it easier for riders of all ages to hit their targets.
Speaking of targets, those infamous Zs throughout the attraction will soon light up and react when hit, thanks to new interactive technology. According to project creative director Justin DeTolla, recent playtests of the upgraded experience helped fine-tune gameplay and guest interaction.
To prepare for the transformation, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will temporarily close in August 2025 and reopen the following year. Stay tuned to ThrillGeek on Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube for all the latest updates
