On August 31, 2025, I had the chance to take part in Universal Orlando’s Unmasking the Horror 6-house tour, and it was a behind-the-screams experience that every Halloween Horror Nights fan should consider. Not only did the tour peel back the curtain on the artistry, storytelling, and technical magic that go into these haunted houses, but it also allowed us to savor the immense detail that might be missed during a typical, adrenaline-fueled run through.
Below is my take on each of the houses from this year’s tour.
Fallout

As one of the most anticipated IP houses this year, Fallout delivers an atmosphere straight out of the post-apocalyptic TV show and video game series. Touring the sets in full lighting made it clear just how much craftsmanship went into recreating iconic wasteland environments. From rusted vault doors to glowing Nuka Cola signage, every corner felt like a love letter to the franchise. Seeing the props and animatronics up close without the chaos of scares showed how immersive and cinematic this house truly is. There are a lot of Easter Eggs in here – keep your eyes peeled.
Jason Universe

Jason Voorhees has stalked his way into HHN before, but this house takes it a step further by delving into a multiverse of terror and what can only be described as a gauntlet of Jason. Walking through, we explored multiple “chapters” of Jason’s legacy, each with unique set pieces and kills. What struck me most during the tour was the balance of iconic Camp Crystal Lake imagery with bold new environments that expand his realm. The detail in the cabins, boats, and woodland textures was meticulous, and hearing about how they layer effects to keep Jason omnipresent gave me an even deeper appreciation.
Terrifier

Art the Clown’s HHN debut is every bit as disturbing as fans hoped. With the lights on, the tour highlighted just how far the creative team pushed the boundaries of grotesque artistry. Gore effects are cleverly crafted, and the set dressing nails the gritty, grindhouse aesthetic of the films. What I loved was learning about the design philosophy: everything is heightened horror, meant to feel almost cartoonishly cruel, which makes it both horrifying and oddly mesmerizing. PSA – the smells linger even when the house isn’t entirely “on.”
Gálkn: Monsters of the North

This original house might be the sleeper hit of the year for me. Drawing on Nordic mythology, Gálkn is filled with towering set pieces, eerie folklore creatures, and a chilling Scandinavian atmosphere. Touring it with the lights on allowed us to admire the hand-carved textures and intricate monster design up close. The storytelling here feels rich and layered, and it’s genuinely a beauty even despite the scares.
El Artista: A Spanish Haunting

Without a doubt, the most visually striking house on the tour, El Artista seamlessly blends Gothic horror with Spanish folklore, creating a space that feels both terrifying and elegant. Walking through the scenes, we were able to see how the creative team incorporated traditional art styles, iconography, and cultural architecture into the design. The sets are drenched in atmosphere. This house will deliver both scares and artistry in equal measure.
WWE Presents: The Horrors of the Wyatt Sicks

This collaboration between HHN and WWE is as wild as it sounds. The Wyatt Sicks, an ominous faction of wrestling’s darker storytelling, have been transformed into a fully realized haunted house. Touring the house with lights on showcased the larger-than-life sets, from creepy arenas to unsettling locker rooms. What makes this house stand out is its theatrical feel, almost as if stepping into a horror-themed wrestling storyline. Although I wasn’t a WWE fan before the event, this tour made me truly appreciate the storytelling and the house overall.
Final Thoughts

The Unmasking the Horror 6-house tour is an essential addition for hardcore HHN fans. Getting to see the artistry up close, hear insider details, and appreciate the design without the distraction of jump scares makes you realize how much passion and creativity go into every single room.
Midway through the tour, we enjoyed a surprisingly good buffet-style lunch that offered a wide range of options to recharge before heading back into the houses. It’s worth noting that the tour involves a lot of walking, so comfortable shoes are a must. Since the houses are air-conditioned and can get quite chilly, bringing a light sweater is a smart idea. And because Florida weather is unpredictable, packing a poncho will save you if a sudden rainstorm rolls through between stops.
If you are attending HHN 2025, I highly recommend booking this tour. It transforms your appreciation of the event and makes walking through the houses later that night even more exciting.
