The Design Behind Villains Land Coming To Magic Kingdom

At Destination D23 2025, Disney Imagineers lifted the veil on their latest creative endeavor: Villains Land, a wholly immersive realm set to arrive in Magic Kingdom. Their design philosophy? A newly minted concept called “Conjured Architecture”—a bold mashup of historical styles and fanciful storytelling that brings the wicked charm of Disney’s villains to life in architectural form.

What Is Conjured Architecture?

Imagineers noticed a striking resemblance between the fluid, expressive forms of Disney villains and the sweeping, naturalistic lines of Art Nouveau. This discovery became the foundation of Villains Land’s signature aesthetic. Conjured Architecture blends those organic elements with magical, eerie overtones—think swirling motifs, rich jewel tones, and enchanted details frozen in time.

To fully capture this style, Disney’s creative team traveled to Paris and Barcelona, working alongside art historians and local professors to absorb signature design elements:

  • In Paris, they studied Art Nouveau’s natural motifs and swirling designs, imagining them as if “cursed by magic,” as they looked poised yet eerie when rendered in Villains Land
  • In Barcelona, they immersed themselves in Modernisme, a visually intense, somewhat surreal counterpart to Art Nouveau—less organic, more uncanny—perfect for a villains-themed setting

Star Power Behind the Scenes

Adding to the land’s creative weight, Disney Legend Andreas Deja, famed animator of iconic villains like Gaston, Jafar, and Scar, joined as a consultant. His input helps ensure that Villains Land feels true not just to architectural styles—but to the soul of each villain’s character.

Magic Meets Mystery

What’s coming to Villains Land? While specifics are still under wraps, Disney promises two major attractions, themed dining, shopping, and an immersive atmosphere unlike anything yet seen—this will truly be storytelling on a wickedly grand scale
