Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas, has officially touched water for the very first time at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland – marking a major step forward as the vessel prepares for its August 2026 debut.

A Milestone Moment at Sea

The float-out process began with the ship’s dry dock filling with water overnight, a process that took nearly 12 hours. Once complete, the 250,000+ gross ton vessel will be carefully moved to the outfitting dock, where interior spaces and technical systems will take shape in the coming months. This milestone represents a key engineering achievement and brings Legend one step closer to welcoming guests aboard.

The Third Icon Class Ship

Legend of the Seas will be the third Icon Class ship, joining the revolutionary family of cruise ships that are redefining what a vacation at sea can be. Guests will explore eight neighborhoods, each offering unique thrills and immersive experiences. Highlights include:

  • Category 6 Waterpark – the largest waterpark at sea.
  • Crown’s Edge – part skywalk, part ropes course, part thrill ride.
  • Expansive dining and drinking venues – with even more to be revealed.
  • Spaces for all ages – from family fun to adults-only relaxation.

The ship will first sail 7-night Western Mediterranean itineraries in Summer 2026, before repositioning for a Caribbean debut in November 2026 with 6- and 8-night voyages. Stops include Royal Caribbean’s fan-favorite private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Sustainability at the Forefront

Legend of the Seas will be Royal Caribbean’s fourth LNG-powered ship, part of the company’s commitment to advancing sustainable cruising. The ship will also feature environmental innovations like waste heat recovery systems and shore power connectivity, supporting Royal Caribbean Group’s broader goal of achieving a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.

What’s Next

More details about Legend of the Seas – including new dining, entertainment, and ship features – will be announced in the coming months. For now, the float-out milestone sets the stage for what promises to be one of the most exciting cruise launches of the decade.
