Universal Destinations & Experiences has unveiled new details for Universal Kids Resort, an all-new theme park designed specifically for families with young children, set to open in Frisco, Texas, in 2026. The resort will feature seven immersive lands inspired by beloved characters and stories from DreamWorks, Illumination, Jurassic World, and Nickelodeon, offering a first-of-its-kind Universal experience built around creativity, imagination, and play.

A Park Designed Through a Child’s Eyes

“Universal Kids Resort embodies the spirit of igniting thrill that drives everything we create,” said Molly Murphy, President of Universal Creative. “It’s a destination made for kids and families to play together, bringing Universal’s storytelling to life close to home.”

The creative team envisioned the park through “the unbridled creativity of kids,” according to Brian Robinson, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer. The result is a world designed to spark curiosity and joy, a place where kids can explore, create, and connect through play.

The Seven Themed Lands

Isle of Curiosity: The resort’s whimsical gateway invites families to begin their adventure. Here, kids can meet Gabby from DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse for a lively dance party and explore interactive play zones designed to fuel curiosity.

DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp: Guests can step into Shrek’s world for ogre-sized fun in Shrek’s Swamp Rompin’ Stomp and Shrek’s Swamp Splash & Smash. Families can meet Shrek and Fiona, snap a photo in the iconic onion carriage, and experience playful water and movement-based activities.

DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar: This seaside carnival-inspired land lets guests join the fearless feline hero, Puss in Boots, and his friends, including Mama Luna and Perrito. Carnival-style games like Barriles de Leche and El Gato’s Meow add a mischievous touch of adventure.

Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club: At this zany water play area, the Yellow Minions face off against their Purple counterparts in a splash-filled competition. Guests can join the action or sit back and enjoy the hilarious chaos in true Minions fashion.

Jurassic World Adventure Camp: Kids can channel their inner explorers as they meet baby dinosaurs, scale Lookout Towers for a panoramic view, and learn about prehistoric life in this nature-meets-adventure zone designed to inspire wonder.

DreamWorks’ TrollsFest:  The ultimate Trolls party comes to life with glitter, color, and music. Guests can dance alongside Poppy, Branch, and friends and play in Poppy’s Playland or Trolls Critter Crawl, where the fun never stops.

Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom: Families can dive under the sea to meet SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy for the “best day ever.” With themed areas like Mussel Beach and Pineapple Paradise, this underwater world blends rest and play in true Bikini Bottom style.

Interactive Play and Sensory Experiences

In addition to rides and attractions, the park will feature multiple sensory gardens designed to help kids pause, connect, and recharge. Team Members will also encourage creativity through activities like sidewalk chalk art, bubble play, and water blasters, turning every corner into a playground for the imagination.

A Family-Focused Resort

Located just steps away from the park, the 300-room Universal Kids Resort Hotel will provide a vibrant, family-friendly place to stay, featuring colorful designs and convenient access to all the fun.

Universal Destinations & Experiences promises more updates soon, including details on entertainment, dining, and retail experiences coming to the park. With Universal Kids Resort, the company aims to redefine family vacations, offering the thrill of Universal storytelling tailored perfectly for younger audiences.
