It’s time to play the music and light the lights! Whether you are a lifelong fan of Kermit or a newcomer to the chaos, there has never been a better time to be a Muppet fan. In 2026, Disney is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the franchise in a big way.

Here is everything you need to know about The Muppet Show on Disney+.

1. The 2026 Revival Special

Disney has officially “raised the curtain” on a brand-new, one-off event titled The Muppet Show Special.

• Release Date: February 4, 2026.

• Where to Watch: Simultaneously on Disney+ (streaming at 12:00 AM PST) and ABC (9:00 PM EST/PST).

• The Vibe: This isn’t a modern reboot; it’s a return to the classic variety show roots. It takes place in the original Muppet Theatre with sketches, musical numbers, and backstage mayhem.

• Star Power: Host: Pop star Sabrina Carpenter is the primary guest star.

• Cameos: Maya Rudolph and Seth Rogen are confirmed to appear.

• Behind the Scenes: Seth Rogen is executive producing, and the special is directed by Alex Timbers (Hamilton, Beetlejuice on Broadway).

2. Streaming the Original Series

If you want to catch up on the history before the special airs, all five seasons of the original The Muppet Show (1976–1981) are currently available on Disney+

What’s Included:

• 118 of 120 Episodes: Almost the entire run is available, including legendary appearances by Elton John, Steve Martin, and Diana Ross.

• Restored Footage: Many musical numbers that were previously cut from DVD releases due to licensing issues have been restored for the Disney+ versions.

Rumor has it that if this anniversary event performs well, Disney is considering greenlighting a full-season revival for 2027.
