In a moving tribute to a member of the Greatest Generation, Walt Disney World recently celebrated the 101st birthday of WWII veteran Herbert Maneloveg. A former Private in the U.S. Army’s 106th Infantry Division, Herbert was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and later awarded the Purple Heart for his service.

The centenarian and his family were guests of honor at the Magic Kingdom, where Herbert participated in the daily Flag Retreat Ceremony. This daily sunset tradition is a cornerstone of Disney’s 100-year history of military appreciation. As the nation prepares for its 250th anniversary, The Walt Disney Company continues its commitment to recognizing the sacrifices of service members, veterans, and their families through these enduring ceremonies and community outreach.
