It’s official: the “house of mouse” has a new leader.
In a major announcement that ends months of speculation, The Walt Disney Company has officially named Josh D’Amaro as its next Chief Executive Officer. D’Amaro, who has long been a fan favorite as the Chairman of Disney Experiences, will take the helm on March 18, 2026.
But he isn’t the only one moving into a new office. Alongside this news, Disney also announced that Dana Walden will step into a historic new role as President and Chief Creative Officer.
Here is what you need to know about the leadership transition that’s set to shape the future of Disney.
The Right Person for the Job?
For many Disney fans, Josh D’Amaro is a familiar face. As the head of the Parks and Experiences division, he’s been the architect behind massive expansions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the $60 billion investment plan currently transforming Disney’s global resorts and cruise lines.
Outgoing CEO Bob Iger didn’t hold back his praise, calling D’Amaro an “exceptional leader” with an instinctive understanding of the brand. “His ability to combine creativity with operational excellence is exemplary,” Iger said in the official statement.
A New Creative Partnership

One of the most interesting parts of this announcement is the elevation of Dana Walden. By creating the role of Chief Creative Officer, Disney is signaling that storytelling remains at the absolute core of the business.
Walden will report directly to D’Amaro, ensuring that the creative magic we see on screen (and on Disney+) is seamlessly integrated with the business side of the empire.
What Happens to Bob Iger?
If you’re wondering if Bob Iger is making a clean break this time, the answer is… almost.
While D’Amaro officially becomes CEO in March, Iger will stay on as a Senior Advisor through the end of 2026. This “mentorship period” is designed to ensure a smooth transition and avoid the turbulence the company saw during its last leadership change a few years back.
Why This Matters
Disney is at a crossroads. Between the evolving world of streaming, the massive expansion of the theme parks, and new ventures into gaming (like the recent partnership with Epic Games), the next CEO has a massive plate.
D’Amaro’s 28-year history with the company suggests he knows the DNA of Disney better than anyone. As he put it himself: “There is no limit to what Disney can achieve.”
