Disneyland Unveils Plans for “DisneylandForward” Expansion, Includes New Theme Park Expansions

According to a new article by the OC Register, Disneyland is planning a massive new expansion called the “DisneylandForward” expansion.

The expansion includes a possible theme park (expansion?), hotel, retail, dining and entertainment on the eastern and western edges of the Disneyland resort, according to the OC Register’s article.

According to the concept artwork (above), the new theme park (or current park expansion?) would be located on the current Downtown Disney and Lilo and Stitch parking lots, while being built around the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel.

Disneyland AND Disney California Adventure Expansions?

Now according to what these two expansions of the current parks could feature, it looks like it’s too early to tell if the official Disneyland Forward website is any indication. The site shows off current projects coming to Disney theme parks around the world, hinting of what COULD come to Disneyland Resort if the expansion is approved.

What the current plans look like is as followed:

Disney California Adventure expansion would possibly include:

  • Zootopia expansion (Currently under construction at Shanghai Disneyland)
  • Toy Story Land (Similar to the one located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios)
  • TRON Lightcycle RUN (Currently at Shanghai Disneyland and under construction at Magic Kingdom)

Disneyland expansion would possibly include:

  • Arendelle (Frozen) (Currently under construction at Tokyo DisneySea)
  • “Tangled” expansion (Currently under construction at Tokyo DisneySea)
  • Neverland expansion (Currently under construction at Tokyo DisneySea)

Disney Springs Coming to Disneyland?

Also mentioned on the official Disneyland Forward website, is the addition of a shopping center modeled after Disney Springs located at Walt Disney World Resort.

The above concept artwork shows a new venue for dining, shopping and entertainment.

Again, this is all just speculation as nothing has been approved by the city of Anaheim. We will keep you updated when/if things progress on this new expansion announcement.

What will happen to parking?

Now clearly if these expansions get approved and do happen, parking will be a major hurdle for Disneyland to overcome as the current plans place these park expansions on existing parking lots. Disneyland mentions that they are planning on building a new parking destination on the east side of The Anaheim Resort, which would include a pedestrian bridge with upgraded entrance accessibility for hotels and businesses located along Harbor Boulevard. In addition, Disney will continue to work with area businesses and the city to invest in and encourage the use of public transit and ride-sharing for both cast and guests.
