Guide to Disneyland Resort Reopening – Dates, Tickets, Hotels, Rides and More

UPDATE 5/26/21 – Beginning June 15, 2021, the Disneyland Resort will once again welcome out of state guests. WEB SLINGERS virtual queue details. 120 day reservation window introduced.

Both theme parks at the Disneyland Resort are planned to reopen for the first time in over a year on April 30, 2021. To be admitted to the theme parks, Guests will need to have:

  • Valid theme park admission
  • Theme park reservation for the same day their admission is valid
  • Appropriate face coverings for each Guest age 2 and older

The guidelines for purchasing theme park tickets and making a theme park reservation can be found below.

Beginning June 15, 2021 guests from outside the state of California will again be welcomed to the Disneyland Resort. Until June 15, all guests visiting the Disneyland Resort must be California residents visiting in groups no larger than 3 households.

The State of California strongly recommends that all guests be fully vaccinated or obtain a negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the theme parks. All guests will continue to be required to wear a face covering throughout their visit to the Disneyland Resort.

Existing Ticket Holders

If you currently are in possession of an unused and unexpired ticket to either Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, or a park hopper (some previously purchased tickets may have had their expiration dates delayed), the theme park reservation system will open no earlier than 8 a.m. PT on Monday, April 12. Beginning on April 9, existing ticket holders may preview available days for their ticket-type on Disneyland.com/ParksUpdates.

Guests Without Park Tickets

For anyone that does not currently have a theme park ticket, including Legacy Passholders whose annual passport is no longer valid, new theme park ticket sales will commence on Thursday, April 15 no earlier than 8 a.m. PT. Once theme park tickets have been purchased, Guests may make theme park reservations.

Ticket Prices

When new ticket sales resume on April 15, prices will remain what they were when the park closed and will utilize the five-tier pricing system introduced in February 2020. When new tickets are purchased, the ticket availability calendar will appear to help you make your decision. The availability calendars may also be found here.

Park Reservations

In order to enter the Disneyland Resort theme parks, in addition to valid admission, Guests must have a theme park reservation valid for the date of the visit. These may be made after purchasing admission, but available dates can be checked prior to purchasing tickets here. Reservations may be made up to 120 days in advance of your visit. PLEASE NOTE: Purchasing admission does not guarantee a theme park reservation. Please ensure to make a theme park reservation as soon as possible after buying tickets.

Park Hopping

Guests who purchase or have a valid Park Hopper ticket and a valid park reservation may visit the other theme park beginning at 1 PM. To be able to park hop, Guests will need to make a park reservation for the first park they plan to visit AND enter that first park prior to park hopping. Currently a park reservation for the second park is not required.

Disney FASTPASS and Disney MaxPass

FASTPASS and MaxPass services have been suspended and are not available for purchase or use.

Hotels, Magic Morning, and Extra Magic Hour

A reservation at a Disneyland Resort hotel does not guarantee a theme park reservation. Guests staying at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa when it reopens will need to book a theme park reservation.

Attractions and Entertainment

Some experiences have been temporarily paused in order to accommodate physical distancing, including:

  • Parades and Nighttime Spectaculars
  • Character Greetings
  • Magical Makeovers at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
  • Single Rider Queues

Character meet-and-greets will be temporarily unavailable, however Characters may be spotted around the parks, waving to guests and being in the backgrounds of photos. Mickey and some of his friends may be found near the Main Street, U.S.A. railroad station or home in Mickey’s Toontown.

Before they become regular visitors to Avengers Campus on June 4, 2021, many iconic superheroes, such as Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man, Black Panther and the Dora Milaje, will be striking poses in Hollywood Land.

Characters

Beloved Disney characters will be part of the magic as the Disneyland Resort theme parks reopen April 30, 2021.  Characters from dozens of favorite Disney stories may be spotted waving and playing across Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. They may even pop up posing in the background of selfies. To help maintain physical distancing, certain experiences that draw large group gatherings – such as parades, stage shows and nighttime spectaculars – will return at a later date.

Guests are encouraged to check Disneyland.com for the latest updates to entertainment. Here’s what guests can expect when the theme parks reopen on April 30, 2021:

Disneyland Park  

  • Main Street, U.S.A. – Mickey Mouse and some of his pals may be seen waving from the steps of the Disneyland Railroad station.
  • Royal Theatre in Fantasyland – From Cinderella to Rapunzel, Snow White, Mulan, Elena of Avalor and many others, guests will be delighted as they are greeted by Disney Royalty. Princesses will pose and wave at a distance for photos with their royal guests.
  • Small World Terrace – Alice and other wonderful Disney friends frolic in the fun as they invite guests to see them at a distance at Small World Terrace.
  • New Orleans Square – The characters of New Orleans Square have returned to their old haunts, and some new ones: Tiana and the pirate known as Redd take up residence on some of the more elevated positions in the land, interacting with guests from afar on the balcony of the 21 Royal Residence, above Pirates of the Caribbean.
  • Mickey’s Toontown – Mickey Mouse and his friends have returned to their homes at Mickey’s Toontown where guests can wave to them and take photos from a distance outside their wacky abodes, and at the Toontown gazebo.
  • Rancho del Zocalo in Frontierland – At Zocalo Park, guests may spot Miguel dressed in mariachi finery and waving to everyone from among the colorful marigolds and papel picado décor inspired by Disney and Pixar’s award-winning film, “Coco.”
  • Star WarsGalaxy’s Edge – While living their own adventures in a galaxy far, far away, guests are likely to come across familiar faces as they explore the Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. Heroes of the Resistance including Rey, Chewbacca and Vi Moradi may be spotted on the platforms above the speeder garage in Black Spire Station. A contingent of First Order Stormtroopers join Kylo Ren in patrolling the landing platform at Docking Bay 9 beneath their TIE Echelon vehicle.

Disney California Adventure Park

  • Carthay Fountain/Buena Vista Street – As guests reach the heart of Disney California Adventure, they will find themselves drawn to the fountain as the center of the action. Mickey Mouse and his friends have stepped out on the town in order to wave hello and welcome back all their friends.
  • Super Heroes – When Disneyland Resort reopens, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will make their way to the Hollywood Backlot Stage, where adoring fans can wave and cheer for Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man, Black Panther and the Dora Milaje, as they strike heroic poses throughout the day.
  • Cars Land – At Radiator Springs, guests can share a laugh and take memorable photos with some of their favorite characters such as Mater, Lightning McQueen and Red the fire truck along the land’s Route 66.
  • Pixar Pals – A variety of Pixar characters such as Woody, Jessie, Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Edna Mode, Frozone, and Joy and Sadness will wave and pose from the Pixar Pier bandshell stage.
  • Disney Junior – Favorite Disney Junior stars, from Vampirina to Doc McStuffins, wave and interact with their friends from the stage of the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land.
  • Paradise Gardens Park – Guests may see Officer Judy Hopps and her friend Nick Wilde from Disney’s “Zootopia” on patrol.

These entertainment experiences will happen frequently throughout the day, bringing a dose of Disney surprise and magic to numerous areas across the parks.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Boarding Groups

As the attraction did at the beginning of 2020, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will utilize boarding groups in a virtual queue system. The virtual queue is only accessible via the Disneyland mobile app. There will be two distribution times for boarding groups, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Specific times will come at a later date. According to the Disney Parks Blog:

  • Guests with a valid ticket and theme park reservation who will start their day at Disneyland park will be able to access the virtual queue system and check for an available boarding group in the morning on the day of their park reservation. Guests will need to have their park tickets linked to their Disney account.
  • To access the second virtual queue opportunity for later that day, guests must have a valid ticket and park reservation, and have entered Disneyland park, or Disney California Adventure park with a Park Hopper ticket by the second enrollment time. Guests beginning their day at Disney California Adventure Park may then enter Disneyland park with their Park Hopper ticket after 1 p.m. for their boarding group.

WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure Virtual Queue

Similar to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider Man Adventure will utilize a virtual queue when it opens with Avengers Campus on June 4th.

To experience WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, Guests are required to join the virtual queue, only accessible via the Disneyland mobile app. Distribution times for virtual queue enrollment are at 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM each day, subject to availability. In order to give as many Guests as possible the opportunity to sling webs alongside Spider-Man, each Guest can enter the virtual queue no more than once per day.

Starting the Day at Disney California Adventure Park
Guests with a valid ticket and theme park reservation, who will start their day at Disney California Adventure Park, can access the virtual queue system via the Disneyland app and check for an available boarding group starting at 7:00 AM on the day of their park reservation. This can be done before you leave your hotel, home, or wherever else you may be at that time. You’ll need to have park tickets linked to your Disney account and applicable theme park reservations. If you are unable to join the morning virtual queue opportunity, you may check for an available boarding group starting at 12:00 PM, that day, after you have entered the park.

Starting the Day at Disneyland Park with a Park Hopper Ticket
To access the virtual queue opportunity beginning at 12:00 PM, Guests must have a valid ticket and park reservation, and have entered Disneyland Park with a Park Hopper ticket by noon. Guests beginning their day at Disneyland Park may then enter Disney California Adventure Park with their Park Hopper ticket after 1:00 PM for their boarding group, as applicable.

Park Hours

Upon reopening, daily theme park hours are planned to be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Parking

Theme park parking will be available at the Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals parking structures.

Dining

Upon reopening, the Disneyland Resort will be encouraging Guests to utilize the mobile order service on the Disneyland App to help promote physical distancing. Dining bookings for select locations with limited capacity will reopen on April 22. Dining reservations will be able to be made 60 days in advance on the Disneyland App for at Disneyland.com.
