Fans of Nintendo and Disney rejoice as Sora, The main character of the popular series Kingdom Hearts has made his long-awaited debut in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Back in 2015, Mr. Sakurai (Creator of Kirby and The Super Smash Series) created a ballot to gauge the public’s thoughts on what characters they would want to see in the game. When Sora was announced, Sakurai revealed that Sora was actually the winner but a deal needed to be struck with Disney/Square Enix. With this momentous deal struck with Disney, Donald Duck and Goofy who are prominent members of Sora’s team are omitted for licensing conflicts
Within the historic announcement of Sora in Smash, We were treated with many different cosmetic versions of him. Including all major costume changes in the main series, they also included 3 Forms from Kingdom Hearts 2 (Valor, Wisdom, and Final Forms) as well as his outfit from Timeless River (Kingdom Hearts 2).
Along with the cosmetics of Sora, we also received a plethora of new music and a brand new stage for Sora based on the world Hollow Bastion.
Delving deeper into gameplay, Sora comes with his own Classic Mode trials where you face many characters in the Smash lineup including Link, Cloud, a Metal Version of himself, and Master & Crazy Hands. In the games Story Mode, World of Light, you can unlock spirits that can help you along your journey including Riku, Axel, and Aqua. He plays very similar to Cloud and Sephiroth, ironically enough.
Personally, I was able to play a few hours of Sora last night and as a casual fan of Smash and a huge fan of Kingdom Hearts. I love that he was able to join the already incredible lineup of characters in Super Smash Bros. and will be a welcomed addition to any future games.
