Disney has unveiled a substantial new look at Villains Land, the upcoming expansion planned for Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. The announcement provided new details about the land’s story and two headline attractions.
First announced in 2024, Villains Land is expected to bring a darker tone to Magic Kingdom while remaining rooted in the park’s traditional fairytale storytelling. Disney says the new area will draw inspiration from some of Disney Animation’s most recognizable villains, including Maleficent, Dr. Facilier, and Cruella, all while telling an entirely original story.
Villains Land Name Revealed
Disney Imagineers have confirmed that the new area will officially be known as… Wait for it… Villains Land. See the newly unveiled logo above.
The straightforward name fits naturally alongside Magic Kingdom’s existing themed lands that include the word “land,” while making it clear that guests are entering a very different kind of environment.
Rather than simply recreating locations from individual Disney films, Imagineers are creating an original world where Disney’s villains have established their own domains.
Not Your Typical Magic Kingdom Storyline

At the heart of Villains Land will be a mysterious Wishing Well whose magic has been corrupted.
According to Disney, an evil wish once shattered the well and released its dark magic into the surrounding forest. The corrupted magic eventually attracted a collection of Disney villains, each seeking to harness its power for their own purposes.
As the villains arrive, they begin creating their own elaborate lairs throughout the land. These fortresses and palaces are designed to reflect the personalities and aesthetics of their inhabitants while providing guests with opportunities to explore, dine, and shop.
Disney has also indicated that Villains Land will be substantial in scale, with the overall footprint being comparable to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Maleficent Roller Coaster

One of the land’s two major attractions will be a new roller coaster centered on Maleficent. Guests will encounter the Mistress of All Evil as they race through the enchanted briar surrounding her imposing mountaintop fortress. The attraction promises to combine a high-speed coaster experience with an immersive Disney story.
Imagineers have also teased that the attraction will incorporate elements the team has not previously attempted on similar Disney attractions, suggesting that the coaster could introduce new ride technology or features.
Disney has yet to reveal additional details about the ride’s track layout, height requirement, or expected opening date.
Magic Mirror’s Realm Dark Ride

The second major attraction will take guests into the world of the Magic Mirror and a collection of Disney’s most famous villains.
The attraction will begin in the catacombs beneath the Evil Queen’s palace, where guests will encounter the Magic Mirror. From there, the Mirror will transport visitors into its mysterious Mirror Realm.
According to Disney, guests will encounter numerous Disney villains brought to life through a combination of physical environments, special effects, and immersive storytelling.
Unlike the Maleficent coaster, this attraction will be a dark ride, allowing guests to experience a more theatrical and immersive journey through the worlds of our favorite Disney’s villains.
A New Twisted Visual Style for Magic Kingdom

Disney Imagineering has also revealed more about the artistic direction behind Villains Land.
The team looked to European architecture for inspiration, including visits to Paris and Barcelona. Architectural influences such as Art Nouveau and Modernisme helped shape the land’s distinctive appearance, with Imagineers focusing on rich colors, organic patterns, and dramatic proportions.
Imagineers have described the design philosophy as “Conjured Architecture.”
The goal is to make the environment feel as though the villains themselves have magically created the buildings and landscapes surrounding guests as they enter Villains Land.
More Than Thrill Rides

Guests will eventually be able to explore villainous lairs, discover themed merchandise, and enjoy food and beverages throughout the area. Disney has previously confirmed plans for dining and shopping as part of the expansion, although additional details remain under wraps.
The project represents one of the most ambitious additions to Magic Kingdom in recent years and gives Imagineering an opportunity to explore a side of Disney storytelling that has rarely been given an entire land.
Opening Timeframe
Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Villains Land. For now, the project remains in development, with additional announcements expected as planning and construction progresses at the Magic Kingdom. Disney says it will continue sharing information about the land in the future.
With its combination of a Maleficent roller coaster, a Magic Mirror dark ride and an entirely new environment inspired by Disney’s most memorable villains, Villains Land is shaping up to be one of Walt Disney World’s most closely watched upcoming projects.
