Disney is celebrating World Princess Week with a week-long lineup of new content, entertainment, experiences and merchandise built around the theme “Once a Princess, Always a Princess.” The celebration officially kicked off August 17 with the debut of a new Disney+ short film.

“Once A Princess, Always A Princess” Debuts on Disney+

The centerpiece of this year’s celebration is Once A Princess, Always A Princess: A Disney Short Film, directed by filmmaker Alex Prager.

The film follows two young girls who become friends through their shared love of Disney Princess stories. Years later, they pass those same stories and traditions on to their own daughters, highlighting how the characters and their stories can connect generations.

Disney also leaned heavily into practical filmmaking for the project, creating handcrafted miniature castles inspired by Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, along with custom puppets, hand-painted backdrops and a score performed by a 56-piece orchestra.

More World Princess Week Highlights

The celebration extends well beyond the new short film:

  • Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration is now streaming on Disney+ and YouTube following its live debut at Disney California Adventure. The concert brought together the largest collection of Disney Princess talent ever assembled, including Brandy, Paige O’Hara, Jodi Benson, Halle Bailey, Auli’i Cravalho, Lea Salonga and Anika Noni Rose.
  • New episodes of Sofia the First: Royal Magic are arriving, while LEGO Disney Princess: Magical Mayhem makes its Disney+ debut on August 21.
  • Disney and Make-A-Wish will grant Disney Princess wishes around the world, with a new miniseries highlighting families and the lasting impact of their wishes.
  • A new Disney Princess Experience is in development, taking guests through worlds inspired by Rapunzel, Tiana, Belle, Moana and Ariel with music and interactive elements.

Disney is also extending the celebration into retail with new toys, fashion, collectibles, books and other merchandise, including new Disney Store offerings and products from Mattel, JAKKS Pacific, Pandora and Loungefly.

World Princess Week continues Disney’s broader “Create Your World” campaign, focusing on how Disney Princess stories and characters continue to connect with fans at different stages of their lives.
