Disney Cruise Line Expands Community Support Across Southeast Alaska

Disney Cruise Line wrapped up its 2026 Alaska season with more than just its final sailings aboard the Disney Wonder. The cruise line spent the final days of the season working with organizations across Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, supporting military families and giving local students a closer look at careers in the maritime industry.

From Sept. 24 through Sept. 26, Disney Wonder crew members participated in three community events across Southeast Alaska. The activities included conversations with students, a Coast Guard family appreciation event and a behind-the-scenes ship tour focused on maritime careers.

The events build on Disney Cruise Line’s ongoing involvement in the communities its ships visit throughout the Alaska cruise season.

Disney Celebrates Coast Guard Families in Juneau

In Juneau, Disney Cruise Line partnered with the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska on Sept. 25 for an event recognizing Coast Guard members and their families serving Alaska and the U.S. Arctic.

Families spent the afternoon participating in themed activities and crafts, along with a special appearance by Captain Mickey Mouse.

Disney Cruise Line also announced an investment in the U.S. Coast Guard Foundation supporting its Coastie Campers summer enrichment program, which helps provide additional opportunities for Coast Guard families in Alaska.

To recognize the Coast Guard’s service in the region, Disney presented Coast Guard Capt. Michele Schallip with an American flag that had flown aboard the Disney Wonder while the ship sailed through Alaskan waters.

The event continues Disney’s long history of recognizing military service members and their families, which the company traces back to Walt and Roy O. Disney’s service during World War I.

Alaska Students Get a Look at Careers Aboard the Disney Wonder

Disney’s final Alaska sailings also gave local students an opportunity to learn more about the people working behind the scenes aboard a cruise ship.

In Skagway on Sept. 24, Disney Wonder crew members met with students from Junior Achievement of Alaska to discuss their own career paths and the wide variety of jobs required to operate a cruise ship. Rather than focusing on one particular role, the conversation highlighted how different interests, skills and backgrounds can lead to careers in the maritime industry.

Two days later, Disney hosted students from Junior Achievement Alaska and the Magsayawan Filipino Dance Group aboard the Disney Wonder in Ketchikan.

Students met with crew members and toured the ship, getting a closer look at the professions involved in its day-to-day operation. For students who regularly see cruise ships arriving in Southeast Alaska throughout the summer, the visit provided an opportunity to see the industry from a completely different perspective.

Disney’s Support Continued Throughout the 2026 Alaska Season

These September events weren’t the only community programs Disney Cruise Line participated in during its 2026 Alaska season.

Throughout the year, Disney supported the Southeast Alaska Food Bank, including its efforts to provide weekend meals through Harborview Elementary School. The cruise line also donated boot and glove warmers for Harborview classrooms.

In Ketchikan, Disney donated books and participated in intergenerational programming at the Ketchikan Pioneer Home. Meanwhile, participants from the Skagway Summer Camp were welcomed aboard the Disney Wonder for the fourth consecutive year.

The programs are part of Disney Cruise Line’s broader effort to maintain relationships with the destinations its ships visit, particularly as Alaska continues to become an important part of the cruise line’s operations.

Disney Cruise Line Is Expanding Its Long-Term Presence in Alaska

Disney’s relationship with Southeast Alaska is also extending well beyond its annual community programs.

Earlier in 2026, Disney Cruise Line and Huna Totem Corporation announced a 15-year agreement providing Disney with preferential access to Icy Strait Point through at least 2041.

The agreement will allow future Disney Cruise Line guests to continue visiting the destination while supporting tourism, local businesses and jobs in Southeast Alaska.

With the Disney Wonder now wrapping up another Alaska season, these final events offered a nice way to close out the summer while highlighting the communities that play such a large role in the Alaska cruise experience.
