Disney has officially announced a brand-new, immersive collection of experiences titled “The Magic of Disney Animation,” set to arrive at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Opening on September 14, 2026, this major addition is the highlight of a complete reimagining of the park’s Animation Courtyard, drawing heavy inspiration from the Emmy Award-winning short film, Once Upon a Studio.
The Reimagined Animation Courtyard
The park has undergone a significant transformation within the Animation Courtyard. Inspired by the architecture and atmosphere of the legendary Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California, the updated area is designed as a relaxed, park-like setting for families. Guests can enjoy lush greenery and discover iconic studio details—such as Pluto’s Corner—while keeping an eye out for character surprises hidden throughout the grounds.
“The Magic of Disney Animation”
The centerpiece of the expansion is a new building inspired by the Roy E. Disney Animation Building. To pay homage to the original California headquarters, the structure even features a version of the iconic Sorcerer’s Hat atop its roof. Inside, guests are invited to explore various “studio departments” through a series of interactive, story-driven experiences:
- “Drawn to Wonderland”: This indoor playground is inspired by the whimsical, mid-century concept art of Disney Legend Mary Blair. The space features vibrant, stylized environments from Alice in Wonderland, providing an energetic area for younger guests to climb, explore, and engage in active play.
- “Off the Page!”: This area celebrates the artistry behind every frame of animation. Guests can venture into different departments—such as Story or Layout—to meet favorite characters in settings that mimic the filmmaking process. Visitors might spot Mulan in front of a storyboard panel or Rapunzel in a setting inspired by the classic multiplane camera.
- “Olaf Draws!”: In this new attraction, a sophisticated Audio-Animatronic Olaf guides guests through a character-drawing class. The experience combines Olaf’s signature humor with legitimate artistic instruction, featuring recorded tips and techniques from renowned Disney animators.
- Once Upon a Studio Theater: Guests can view the short film Once Upon a Studio in a dedicated theater. To elevate the experience, the space features enhanced effects that make it appear as though characters are popping off the walls and into the room with the audience.

By blending the history of the Burbank studio lot with the modern magic of Walt Disney World, this new collection aims to inspire the next generation of storytellers. Whether guests are sitting down for a drawing lesson or exploring the “Off the Page” exhibits, the goal is to provide a deeper look at the craft behind the films.
