Disneyland Park is set to become the focus of a major new chapter, with Walt Disney Imagineering beginning work on a reimagining of Tomorrowland. The announcement, made during the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event showcase, signals a renewed effort to restore the original spirit of the land while giving it a new vision for the future.
According to Disney, the transformation will honor Tomorrowland’s legacy while introducing new attractions, more open spaces, and new opportunities for guests to imagine what the future could look like. The goal is to preserve what guests love about the land while restoring the sense of optimism, innovation and possibility that inspired Walt Disney when Disneyland opened in 1955.
Tomorrowland has arguably spent decades trying to figure out exactly what its future should be. The land has undergone numerous changes as Disney attempted to keep its vision of tomorrow relevant, with attractions coming and going as the definition of the future evolved.
For longtime Disneyland fans, one of the most memorable—and perhaps infamous—chapters was the PeopleMover and Rocket Rods era.
The PeopleMover once provided guests with a leisurely tour above Tomorrowland, offering a literal glimpse at Walt Disney’s vision of the future. After the attraction closed in 1995, its elevated track was repurposed for the Rocket Rods, which opened that same year. The high-speed attraction ultimately closed in 2000, leaving the PeopleMover track behind as a lasting reminder of Tomorrowland’s complicated history.

Now, Disney appears ready to look at Tomorrowland differently.
Rather than simply replacing individual attractions, the company says the reimagining will focus on the land as a whole, with Imagineers working to restore the spirit that defined Tomorrowland when Walt Disney first created it.
There is something especially fitting about Disney making this announcement at Disneyland.
This is, after all, the original Disney theme park—the place Walt Disney personally envisioned and built as a constantly evolving showcase of imagination and progress. While Disney has built enormous resorts and attractions around the world, the future of the company’s theme parks is now, in an interesting way, pointing back toward Anaheim.
And Tomorrowland is the perfect place for that homecoming.
The land was built around the idea that tomorrow should always be changing. Its history—including attractions such as the PeopleMover and Rocket Rods—is a reminder that Disney has been experimenting with that idea for generations.
Disney isn’t promising a return of the PeopleMover or Rocket Rods, and the company has not yet revealed specific attractions that will make up the new Tomorrowland. For now, Imagineers are only beginning to develop the next chapter.
