SeaWorld Orlando turned up the terror — and the tempo — on August 20 with Scream & Sweat, a one-night-only preview event that transformed the Nautilus Theater into a wildly warped ’90s fitness studio.
The high-energy experience gave media and content creators a first look at what awaits during Howl-O-Scream 2026, including this year’s haunted houses, scare zones and newest character: Pestilence.
A Killer ’90s Workout
Led by an over-the-top emcee with all the cadence and charisma of a late-night fitness infomercial, Scream & Sweat put a sinister spin on classic ’90s aerobics and Jazzercise-inspired routines.
Scare actors transformed ordinary workouts into terrifying encounters, with each routine introducing a different nightmare from this year’s Howl-O-Scream lineup.
The result was a bizarre combination of nostalgia, fitness culture and horror — complete with plenty of ’90s attitude and, as SeaWorld puts it, “zero mercy.”
But the real surprise came when the workout reached its terrifying finale.
Meet Pestilence, Howl-O-Scream’s Newest Icon

The workout ended with the unexpected arrival of Pestilence, a haunting new force entering the Howl-O-Scream storyline.
With powers rooted in contagion and corruption, Pestilence spreads sickness, weakness and obsession, breaking down the will of her victims before they even realize they have been chosen.
Her look combines poisonous green and corrupted purple, creating what SeaWorld describes as “toxic elegance.” Pestilence also wields the Venom Whip, a barbed weapon coated in deadly toxin.
But Pestilence isn’t simply a new villain. She has a history with one of Howl-O-Scream’s most recognizable characters.
Pestilence and Havoc Have a History
Long before Havoc built his empire, Pestilence rode beside him as his first love — and his first mistake.
While Havoc craved speed, chaos, and freedom, Pestilence sought devotion and a slower, deeper form of destruction that would rot the world from within.
When Havoc left her behind, Pestilence waited as his victories grew and his lies festered.
Now, she’s back.
And she’s not looking for forgiveness.
Pestilence has returned to finish what she and Havoc started and to remind him that some infections never leave.
Pestilence Infects Nekrosis
Pestilence’s influence extends into Nekrosis, one of the six scare zones featured during Howl-O-Scream 2026.
Set in a seaside town frozen in the final minutes of 1999, Nekrosis puts a sinister spin on the nostalgia surrounding the end of the millennium.
Pestilence has weaponized those memories, infecting the technology, sounds, and nostalgia of the ’90s and transforming them into instruments of terror.
The town has become ground zero for an infection that threatens to spread throughout Howl-O-Scream.
Five All-New Haunted Houses
Pestilence isn’t the only new nightmare arriving at SeaWorld Orlando this year.
Howl-O-Scream 2026 will feature five new haunted houses, including one based on a popular horror film.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Inspired by the Sony Pictures horror movie, I Know What You Did Last Summer will make its Howl-O-Scream debut.
Guests will step beyond the screen and into a nightmare where every secret comes with a price and the vengeful Fisherman could be waiting around every corner.
Dark Net
This original haunted house delivers a cyberpunk vampire nightmare where technology and bloodshed collide.
Everything Must Stay
What appears to be an ordinary suburban open house quickly turns into something much more sinister as unexplained horrors take over.
Raveyard
The party never ends in this eternal undead celebration, where the dead are ready to keep the night going.
Crawlspace
Guests will venture into a failed underground containment site where something has gone horribly wrong.
Six Scare Zones Take Over SeaWorld
Terror won’t be confined to the haunted houses. Six immersive scare zones will spread throughout the park.
Nekrosis traps a seaside town in the aftermath of a disastrous Y2K celebration, while Just One More Chapter transforms dark romance into a dangerously alluring garden filled with obsession and betrayal.
Returning scare zones Woodrot Hollow and Trailer Park Tragedy are also back, bringing forest decay and twisted dark humor to the event.
Meanwhile, Dooms District delivers an end-of-the-world nightmare, and Extermination Order takes an infestation to its horrifying breaking point.
More Fear After Dark
Beyond the haunted houses and scare zones, Howl-O-Scream 2026 will feature five all-new immersive themed bars, frightfully delicious food and beverages, live entertainment and four rides operating in the dark.
The entertainment lineup includes a new twist on the high-energy stunt show Throttle, along with the return of fan-favorite musical production Monster Stomp.

SeaWorld is also introducing a new way to experience Howl-O-Scream this year.
