Fans of The Princess and the Frog recently got a little extra magic when Jenifer Lewis paid a special visit to Tiana’s Joyful Celebration, the first-ever museum exhibit dedicated to Princess Tiana.

The exhibit, currently on display at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, celebrates the world of Princess Tiana and the rich traditions, music, food, and culture that inspired Disney’s beloved animated film.

For Lewis, who famously voiced Mama Odie in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, the visit was especially meaningful. Not only is she featured within the exhibit itself, but she also spent time interacting with families, singing, dancing, and sharing joyful moments with guests experiencing the attraction.

If you’ve ever seen Jenifer Lewis speak, perform, or interact with fans, it’s hard not to see shades of Mama Odie in her larger-than-life personality.

Known affectionately as the “Mother of Black Hollywood,” Lewis has built a legendary career spanning film, television, music, and theater, with memorable roles in Black-ish, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sister Act, and countless other projects.

Her role as Mama Odie remains one of Disney’s most beloved supporting characters, bringing wisdom, humor, and heart to The Princess and the Frog.

She also recently reprised the role for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland, helping connect the original film to Disney’s newest generation of Tiana experiences.

What makes Tiana’s Joyful Celebration particularly unique is that it goes beyond simply showcasing a Disney character.

The exhibit explores the culture, community, and traditions that inspired Princess Tiana’s story, offering interactive experiences that celebrate New Orleans and the themes of determination, family, and perseverance that made the character resonate with so many fans.

That feels especially important right now as Disney continues to expand Tiana’s presence through attractions, entertainment, and experiences beyond the original film.

After its debut in Indianapolis, Tiana’s Joyful Celebration will embark on a five-year national tour, bringing the experience to museums across the country.

Upcoming stops currently include:

  • Los Angeles, California
  • Everett, Washington
  • Dearborn, Michigan
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Fort Worth, Texas
  • Tampa, Florida

Additional locations are expected to be announced throughout the tour.

Disney has created museum exhibits before, but seeing an entire traveling exhibit centered around Princess Tiana feels significant.

For many fans, Tiana represents one of Disney’s most inspiring modern princesses. Her story has always been grounded in hard work, ambition, family, and community, making her relatable in a way that continues to resonate more than fifteen years after the film’s release.

Having Jenifer Lewis visit the exhibit feels like the perfect full-circle moment. Few people embody the spirit and energy of Mama Odie better than the actress who brought her to life.

And judging by the smiles from families visiting that day, it seems she brought a little extra magic with her.
