Amusement park enthusiasts have a major reason to plan a trip to the Carolinas. Carowinds has officially announced its next signature attraction: Rip Roarin’ Falls, a massive, world-record-breaking “super flume” water ride scheduled to debut in 2027.

The new attraction blends the nostalgic charm of a classic log flume with modern engineering, high-speed coaster elements, and an immersive storyline.

A Historic Triple-Record Breaker

Manufactured by industry leader WhiteWater, Rip Roarin’ Falls is not your average log flume. Standing as one of the tallest water rides ever engineered, the attraction will officially claim three distinct world records upon opening:

  • Tallest Flume Drop: A staggering 100-foot final plunge.
  • Tallest Reverse Drop: A backward descent dropping riders 42 feet.
  • Tallest Reverse Camelback: A unique 32-foot backward airtime hill.

The experience is designed to be highly accessible. Despite its record-breaking scale and a top speed of 50 mph, the ride features a highly accommodating 35-inch height requirement (when accompanied by an adult). This strategic choice ensures that families and hardcore thrill-seekers alike can experience the park’s new flagship attraction together.

The Experience: Haunted Mystery Meets High-Speed Splashes

The ride is themed around an eerie, abandoned lumber mill rumored by locals to be haunted. Guests will board eight-passenger boats for a sprawling 6-minute, 30-second adventure.

The track layout utilizes two high-speed reversing switches that shift the boat’s direction mid-ride, sending passengers navigating through 2,240 feet of rushing currents both forward and backward. The journey culminates in a dramatic 100-foot drop, hitting 50 mph before a massive, crowd-pleasing splashdown.

Feature Specification
Ride Type Super Flume
Track Length 2,240 feet
Ride Duration 6 minutes, 30 seconds
Top Speed 50 mph
Capacity / Boat 8 passengers
Height Requirement 35″ (with adult) / 42″ (unaccompanied)

Location and Legacy

Rip Roarin’ Falls is being constructed in the Thrill Zone section of the park, near the famous Fury 325 giga coaster. Nostalgic fans will appreciate the location: it is being built on the former site of Rip Roarin’ Rapids, a beloved water attraction that was retired in 2019. To maximize efficiency and reduce park wait times, the ride will feature a state-of-the-art loading station optimized for high-capacity throughput.

This addition marks the latest milestone in an aggressive decade-long expansion for Carowinds. Since 2015, the park has added over 20 rides and attractions, alongside major footprints in the Carolina Harbor Waterpark and the family-friendly Camp Snoopy.

Introducing a New Membership Model

Alongside the ride announcement, Carowinds is shaking up its ticketing system by launching a new Season Membership program. Starting at an accessible $8 per month, the membership grants unlimited visits to Carowinds and Carolina Harbor for the remainder of 2026, extending all the way through the 2027 season for the grand opening of Rip Roarin’ Falls.

Higher-tier Gold Memberships will also include regional access to six additional Six Flags properties across the East Coast, including nearby Kings Dominion and Six Flags Over Georgia.
