REVIEW – New Disney Vacation Club Fort Wilderness Cabins

Share:

I have never stayed at Fort Wilderness at Walt Disney World before. So i was excited when Disney Vacation Club invited us out to stay 2 nights in a cabin at the new ‘The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.’ It would also be Cyn’s(my partner in life) first time staying at a Disney Resort. So with that in mind we checked in early on a Saturday(normal check in time is 3pm) to experience the new cabin.

The first thing we noticed as you pull up is the distinctive look of the cabins. They have a very modern feel with a touch of rustic with the wood planking and a mid-century modern feel with the metal panels and slanted roof. There is a parking space for your car or if you’re renting or bringing your golf cart. There is also a charcoal grill and a deck connected to the cabin.

The first thing we noticed when we went up the deck’s stairs was the table with benches and two chairs with the Mickey Mouse symbol on them. There is plenty of seating on the deck for a cabin that can hold up to six people.

We then use the key card for the glass door into the cabin and one of the first things I noticed walking in is just how bright the cabin is. There are plenty of windows, and almost all of them have shades, so the cabin has a nice open feel, especially with the high ceiling from the slanted roof.

When you first walk in you’re in the living area of the cabin and it is nice to see that it has a full kitchen, this is no kitchenette. There is an oven, stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, toaster, coffeemaker, and sink with disposal. The cabinets are loaded with glasses, plates, pots, pans, silverware, and utensils—everything you would need to make meals in your cabin, which we did.
There also is a seating area with a table and six chairs.

There is also a large flatscreen TV on the wall and a sofa that converts into a Murphy bed, which is much nicer and more comfortable than a sleeper sofa, and a table and chair  We like the set up of the living area with everything being so open so you can cook in the kitchen, watch TV, relax on the couch and eat all at the same time.

Down a short hallway is the bathroom area. There is a separate vanity sink, with a hairdryer and spare toilet paper and tissues in a cabinet underneath the sink with a makeup mirror outside of the main bathroom, which is very nice to have especially when you have multiple people in the cabin.

Inside the bathroom itself is a vanity sink, toilet a walk-in shower, and plenty of racks for towels. The walk-in shower is very spacious with a rainfall showerhead and a separate handheld showerhead, you can use in shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that is in dispensers on the wall of the shower  The bathroom also has an exhaust fan that you can turn on which I always appreciate because it helps keep the bathroom from getting too damp. Also, in the bathroom is a storage closet with a steam iron, a vacuum cleaner, a collapsible laundry basket, an ironing board, and a broom with a dustpan. The bathroom does have a nightlight, which is helpful since it is a long walk from the bedroom to the bathroom, which is located on the other side of the cabin.

So all the way on the other side of the cabin is the bedroom. It has a platform queen bed, so you can store your luggage underneath, and two bunkbeds, that have drawers on the bottom  There is also a dresser and a clothing rack with hangers and shelves  There is also a TV in the bedroom.

So now that I’ve described the cabin, let’s talk about what it was like to stay in it over two nights. The AC units kept the cabin pretty cool. The lowest you can set it is 68° and we kept it at 68° the whole time. There are two AC units. There’s a main unit that cools the living area and bathroom and a separate mini-split that cools the bedroom,

Speaking of the bedroom the queen bed was very comfortable. We had no problems sleeping on it. We did not sleep in the bunkbeds or Murphy beds. We did try them out and we found both of them very soft and comfortable. Also, a nice little touch is that the bunk beds come with sleeping bags. So if you or your kids want to get more of a camping feel to your cabin stay you can actually sleep in sleeping bags on the bed and there are extra blankets in the cabin too.

Both days we were there we made ourselves brunch in the kitchen. We had no problem using one of the skillets to cook up eggs and to use the microwave to heat bacon and use the oven to make some cinnamon rolls. We always find it nice when we’re on vacation if we’re staying at a house or a cabin to be able to cook at least one of our meals a day. So it’s nice to have that option and it makes things easier having a full kitchen as opposed to a kitchenette.

We had no issues with the bathroom. It’s very functional and it helped having that separate vanity sink with makeup mirror so when Cyn was getting ready for us to go out, she was able to use that sink while the bathroom was still free and available.

One of the highlights of the cabin is all the little Disney touches throughout the cabin. There is so much artwork everywhere in the cabin that features Chip and Dale, Mickey and Pluto, and there are a few little Easter eggs throughout the cabin. Some of the artwork also celebrates Fort Wilderness. It’s these special touches that make staying at a Disney property different from other places and it was one thing we really appreciated about the cabin.

Overall, we loved our stay at ‘The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.’ We felt the cabin was one of the nicer places we have stayed on Disney property at Walt Disney World. A vacation at Walt Disney World can be very busy and hectic but one of the nice things about Fort Wilderness is it is so much removed from the rest of Walt Disney World that you feel like you’re in a different place.

We didn’t go to the park the entire weekend we were there, even though we could have. We experienced a lot of the amenities and activities in Fort Wilderness. So if you want a more laid-back vacation at Walt Disney World, I recommend the cabins. I would also recommend you rent or bring your own golf cart because that is the easiest way to get around Fort Wilderness because it is very big. There is a shuttle bus service that runs throughout the Resort. But Disney was nice enough to provide us with a golf cart and it was a lot of fun driving around and exploring the resort.

So if you have the opportunity, we definitely recommend staying in the new Disney Vacation Club cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.
