A classic Walt Disney World experience is getting a long-awaited upgrade.
Walt Disney World Resort is expanding its Magic Kingdom ferry fleet for the first time in nearly 50 years, with a brand-new vessel set to debut in 2027.
First New Ferry Since 1976
This marks the first new ferryboat added since 1976, increasing the fleet from three to four boats that transport guests between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom.
The new ferry is a 120-foot-long vessel, currently being constructed in Florida and will be transported in sections to Walt Disney World for final assembly. Once complete, it will match the look, feel, and capacity of the existing boats already in operation.
For many guests, the ferry isn’t just transportation. It’s part of the arrival experience, especially that first view of Cinderella Castle as you cross Seven Seas Lagoon.
Honoring Disney Leadership
The new ferryboat will be named “Meg Gilbert Crofton,” continuing the tradition of honoring key figures in Walt Disney World history.
Meg Crofton served as president of Walt Disney World from 2006 to 2013 and played a major role in shaping the resort during that time.
Her tenure included the development of New Fantasyland and the opening of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, both of which remain major parts of the resort today.
Like the other ferryboats, the new vessel will feature her portrait onboard along with a plaque sharing her story with guests.
A Small Change That Makes a Big Difference
While this isn’t a flashy new ride or land, it’s one of those updates that will have a real impact on the guest experience.
Adding another ferry increases capacity and helps improve flow during peak arrival and departure times, especially as Magic Kingdom continues to expand.
And honestly, there’s something about the ferry that just feels like classic Disney. It’s slower, more scenic, and gives you a moment to take everything in before the day really starts.
